TOMATO (Solanum lycopersicum) the tomato is the red berry type fruit which belongs to the nightshade family Solanaceae which also includes chili peppers, potato, eggplant, etc. and is native to South America. There are 2,161 hectare of tomato commercially grown in Malaysia in 2018 producing  176,600 metric tons for domestic and export market. Two main export destination are Singapore and Brunei DS. Despite technically being a fruit, the tomato is generally categorized as a vegetable. Garden Tomato, Tomato is few of the common names of the plant. Tomatoes are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, while red tomatoes are the most common one. Tomatoes are once considered poisonous and were grown only for ornamental purposes under the names “tomatl,” “love apple” or “pomme d’amour.” Pear Tomato, Branch Tomato, Raf Tomato, Cherry Tomato, Globe Tomato, Roma Tomato, Sun Gold Tomato, Big Beef Tomato, Juliet Tomato, Beefsteak Tomato, Eva Purple Ball Tomato, Cherokee Purple Tomato and Green Zebra Tomato are some of the popular varieties of tomatoes that are grown around the world due to its higher nutritional value and delightful taste. Types of tomato grown in many countries are:

121. Giant Syrian tomato
Plant creates great yields of large 1 lb pinkish red tomatoes. Tomatoes are extremely tasty and also have few seeds. Good for slicing, sauce, and paste. Great canning variety. A variety from West Virginia, USA.

122. Golden Gem tomato
Tall plant creates higher yields of small golden-orange cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes develop in group of 50 or even more, and therefore are crack proof. The tomatoes are extremely sweet with a sugar content of 10%. Outstanding consumed fresh off the vine or even for salads.

123. Ildi Tomato

127. Margo Tomato
Plant creates great yields of 6 oz shiny red tomatoes. The tomatoes maintain their taste from the vine well. This particular plant is ideal for smaller sized gardens. Determinate. Disease Proof.

128. Momotaro Tomato
