TRELLIS SYSTEM

TRELLIS SYSTEM are popular infrastructure in creeping vegetable growing in Malaysia. The trellis system erected with strong post and galvanized iron No 8 or No 10 connected all the posts. Most commercial farmers prepare few bed under this trellis system for vegetable planting with 4 feet width and the length  depend on the farm size. Normally the trellis height about 5-6 feet from the ground for a mini-tractor or 2 wheel pedestrian rotovator able to operate.


Source of water supply for vegetable farming in Tangkak, Johor. The dark water color shows that the ad quality of water used for irrigation after heavy rainfall. 

Weeds among main problem in the trellis system if not manage properly. The weeds able to compete with vegetable for plant nutrients, space, sunlight and as a host for some disease, fungi and pests.

Preparation of silvershine mulching for new planting. This farmers however sow the cucumber seed just before total removal of previous crops.

A vegetable farms at Bukit Rambai, Melaka combining the trellis system and flooding irrigation system. They grow cucumber but attacked by Downy Mildew and 90% damaged just before flowering stage. No income for this season !

A well harvesting season for Mr Murad at Tangkak with trellis system and growing bitter gourd (Peria Katak Seed No 327). He gain 18 metric ton per hectare with average farm price RM 2.00 per kilogram. The trellis simple structure costs him about RM 8,500 per hectare and last for 3-5 years. 

This is a plastic rope for creeping activity creeping vegetables such as Cucumber, Angle Loofa, Bitter Gourd, Long Bean, French Bean, Winged Bean and many others. One bundle of the rope priced at RM 8,50 and one hectare required for 15-20 bundle. Why the color are green...not red or blue?...It relate may be of the IPM Concept...I am not sure.
