HIGHER PRICE FOR PARSLEY AT PENANG

PARSLEY
are one of the leafy vegetables sold in most wet market snd supermarket in Malaysia. Based on the activities by
Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) in a local market survey conducted recently found that the prices of these herbs had increased drastically. In the case of Georgetown, Penang following the recent price increase of chicken in which local markets in Penang are now seeing an increase in the prices of coriander, parsley and Chinese celery leaves. The Consumers' Association of Penang (CAP) in a market survey conducted on Monday, found that the prices of these herbs had increased drastically. According to the CAP president Mohideen Abdul Kader said coriander leaves in which was imported from Thailand are increased from RM10.00 per kg to RM22.00 per kg three weeks ago. Currently the price was reached to the highest in many years to RM 50.00 per kg. CAP report that this is five times its normal price! Even the price of locally grown coriander leaves had increased more than double from RM20.00 per kg to RM47.00 per kg. The demand for Thai coriander is high because it is more fragrant than locally grown ones. Parsley leaves price increased from RM4.00 per kg to RM10.00 per kg.  According to local traders, the increase was due to a high demand for these herbs especially during the festive Ramadan and other. The price increase within a short time frame of this readily available and easily grown herb and was outrageous. The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to immediately carry out a crackdown on traders practising this exorbitant price hike and to take action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. CAP would also like to advise consumers to avoid becoming victims of this blatant act of profiteering and stressing that instead of purchasing corainder and parsley at the local market, try growing the herb as it does not require a lot of space. It was reported last week that the chicken price had increased drastically from RM7 per kg to RM8.50 per kg within a week.  Poultry sellers at the Bukit Mertajam market had increased the price of fresh chicken between RM9 and RM9.50 per kg, since the previous week. The price increase occurred following sellers having to pay a higher price to suppliers after being told of a shortage in supply due to the Movement Control Order (MCO). The government would continue to monitor chicken retail prices in markets in the state. However, reported that that there was ample supply of the poultry. Thanks...
