Durian Clones in Malaysia

Durian (Durio zibethinus) was the largest fruit tree grown in Malaysia with about 110,000 hectare in 2009. Durian was planted from traditional system to commercial system with mixed clones. Department of Agriculture identified more than 200 durian clones in Malaysia since 1934 and only 10 clones was recomended for mass production. Durian rich of Vitamin A (150 mg), Vitamin C (23.3 mg), Protein (2.7 gm), Fats (3.4 gm), Carbohydrate (27.9 gm) and Ferrous (1.9 mg).

Durian clones are selected from various location with specific recommendation characteristic each clones. DOA ensure the clones are the best quality to meet the consumer taste such as appearance , sweetness, color, durability, seedless and others. The non-clonal durian was planted without any preference but some of them are also good quality.
Not many local knows either so called D24 is the genuine clones when they buy roadside...the buyer has to rely and thrust the fruit seller and pay at a premium price for so claimed good clones.
