GRASSES IN ORCHARD

Grasses in Malaysian Orchard are among issues in farm management. The grass compete for plant nutrients, air, water , space and also as a hosts for pests and diseases. The proper grass management able to boost the fruit production as a symbiosis process for the crops and environmental stability.  


Selaput Tunnggul (Mikania micrantha) among fast growing weeds and also called as 'Mile-a-minute weed' due to the speed by spreading in the open area. 


Rumput Israel (Asystasia gigantica L) is fast growing weeds in the tropical orchard. It has white and purple flower which produce nectar for the bees to collect.


A mixed weed in the jackfruit orchard at Sg Tengi, Selangor. The spraying of weedicide applied every 2-3 months. 

A type of Coleus spp. weed within Asystasia and Mikania in the weed community.


Suppressed weed in orchard with proper controlled programme in Malaysia.
